Construction of the Canfranc International Railway Station began in 1915 with the aim of becoming a border crossing between Spain and France through the Pyrenees. Its works were completed in 1925 and it was not until 1928 when it was inaugurated by Alfonso XIII and the President of the French Republic Gaston Doumergue, becoming the second largest station in Europe. It lived its splendor years in the 1930s, but international service was interrupted between 1945 and 1949 due to political disagreements with the French government.

In this project we have given a second life and its own personality to this unique building. The aesthetic inspiration is that of the old stations of the 20th century and their luxurious long-distance trains - with their particular wagons and representative elements -, but providing a contemporary wink.
One of the great challenges of the new Canfranc Estación that ILMIODESIGN has faced has been precisely to respect and integrate the monumental character of the station (structure, morphology...), protected as an asset of cultural interest, to the proposed renovation project.
